EARLY LEARNING SCHOOL
CURRICULUM
The Reggio Emilia Inspired approach is an innovative framework for early childhood education which values each child as strong, capable and resilient, rich with wonder and knowledge. Every child brings with them deep curiosity and potential and this innate curiosity drives their interest to understand their world and their place within it.
At Brookhouse, we augment this natural curiosity and potential by creating an enabling environment (the so-called “third teacher”) that provides both stimulating provocations and ensures the necessary rigour of the learning process.
In the Reggio Emilia Inspired approach, there is a strong focus on social collaboration and working in groups, where each child is an equal participant, having their thoughts and questions valued. Communication becomes a vibrant process, a way of discovering things, asking questions and using language to learn through play.
The adult is both mentor and guide, observing the children, listening to their questions and their stories, finding what interests them and then providing them with opportunities to explore these interests further.
Probably the most well-known aspect of the Reggio Emilia Inspired approach is the ‘Hundred Languages of Children’, the belief that children use many different ways to show their understanding and express their thoughts and creativity.
